Monster High OC: Emily Van Dort

Description

See, whenever I don't have school I always accomplish what I say I will. So here you have the colored version of my corpse bride MHOC, Emily Van Dort.

Now, I am very aware that Emily is not be far my most original MHOC in terms of design, because yes, I acknowledge the thoughts of "Wow, a corpse bride...and she's wearing a wedding dress-esque outfit. And oh wow, her name is EMILY, how absolutely original. NOT."

So is she one of my better MHOCs in terms of design? NO. And I know this, so please don't bother repeating to me...unless you really want to, in which case go ahead.

I will take the time to defend this "unoriginality," however, because there were reasons for everything I did with her. She's actually the child of Victor and Victoria, so she was born human. I'm not going to give you the long version of her life story, since it will appearing in my gallery soon. ;)
---
The basic jist is Emily, infatuated with the idea of true love, runs away from home to find it for herself (as opposed to sit around and wait for her parents to choose for her). However, in order to survive she needs a job, but as women weren't respected back when she was alive, Emily disguises herself as a boy. Over time, she comes to realize that she's fallen in love with the daughter of the man who owns the stables where she works as a cabby...and oddly enough, the daughter's fallen in love with Emily (thinking she was a man). Despite knowing that homosexuality is something extremely frowned upon, Emily doesn't care because she's finally found the love of her life. They keep their relationship secret and run off together to be wed. It turns out that Emily's partner is an amazing seamtress, and makes Emily's wedding dress by hand. However, before they can be wed, the villagers in the town where they live ambush the wedding, claiming the two have been possessed by the Devil (the only sane reason for why two girls would love each other in such a physical and emotional way), and have them hung. Emily comes back as a corpse bride to search the world for her lover, who she could not find in the land of the dead, thinking she may be looking for Emily, too.

So basically, that dress Emily's wearing in the artwork is the "slightly ruined because it got ripped while Emily was digging out of the ground" dress made for her by her fiance.

Also, although you can't see it in this particular drawing, Emily's spine is also visible. You'll get to see it when I get around to drawing her DotD image. :aww:

Anyways, all in all, I'm still happy with how she turned out...except maybe her hair. Something about it's still irking me. :p Well, I hope you like her.
